Because we buy direct and seasonally, the contents will sometimes vary from week to week and will vary by season. However we’ll make sure the staples are in there each week. Box contents may vary depending on size, with some items only being available in some box sizes. We try and rotate produce so you don’t miss out! Boxes are put together on a dollar value and we work your produce contents up to box prices, so the difference between box sizes ends up to be volume of produce.

Rotation is a great idea! It’s our week to get garlic which is pretty exciting. Special thanks to David Webb and Kalangadoo Organic for your out-of-this-world fruit! Kev & Chris Magann, your rockmelons won over a lifelong melon hater. Well done.

We picked up our second box of fruit and veg this week and are LOVING it! I am really enjoying discovering what we have in our box and planning what to cook using our fresh ingredients. Thanks Food Connect :o )

Very disappointed :) to miss out on rhubarb!! But wow the garlic is gorgeous.

It would be great to know… How local is “local”?
Would you consider putting in your table where the farm producers are located at, and approx distance to Adelaide? That would be very useful for considering carbon footprint and general interest in knowing where my food comes from and helping to promote the whole concept in general.

FoodConnect Adelaide May 12, 2010 at 9:31 am

Hi Jenni – we source most of our produce from within a 5 hour driving radius of Adelaide, the exceptions being tropical fruits.

I have just opened my 2nd box.Once again the produce is beautifully fresh and I had devoured the most luscious pomegranate I have EVER eaten – I licked that lovely ruby juice off the plate!
Congratulations on a fabulous collection of fruit and vegetables!

eve- thanks for the feedback- we often work in a void and people have so many varied and different expectations its nice to know we have nailed it for some.

Antonella May 21, 2010 at 2:23 pm

I love the box, but was wondering if there is any chance of getting other winter vegies like broccoli, fennel, cabbage…?

FoodConnect Adelaide May 21, 2010 at 2:31 pm

Hi Antonella- as they come into season here in SA we will be sourcing them.

Antonella May 23, 2010 at 10:11 pm

Excellent! Can’t wait :-)

getting two spring onions (perfect!) reminds me of shopping at italian markets – being able to buy a spring or two of herb rather than an excessive bunch. I know the logistics of that aren’t easy, but i would love receiving just spring or two of something.

Emma May 31, 2010 at 1:14 pm

Any chance of having the tops left attached to the beets? They are very nutritious and delicious and can be used like spinach or any other greens – it is my favourite bit, actually..

Vicky June 6, 2010 at 10:50 am

ooh, I second Emma’s comment about the beetroot – I love making salads with the leaves and stems.

FoodConnect Adelaide June 6, 2010 at 12:37 pm

Hi emma and Vicky- we have spoken to monika who grows the beetroots about this and she is not including beet leaves ta the moment for a few reasons. One is that as the season wears on the leaves become fewer in number and ‘scungier’ and two, the beets for bunching (including leaves) are manged differently – kept cleaner, less pests, higher maintenance and she doesn’t have any of those beds left for us at this end of the season. Hope this answers your questions! Cheers.

Vicky June 23, 2010 at 11:38 am

Thanks for the response. It is lovely being able to ask a question and receive a response which helps me feel even more in touch with the ins and outs of our local farming community.

I just can’t cope without green leafy veges. last week was a struggle I must admit. So I can’t wait for the broccolli and spinach this week. oh bliss! yum!
Keep up the good work!

Lovey July 4, 2010 at 9:06 am

In a frenzy of broccolli ecstasy!!

Simone July 31, 2010 at 6:16 pm

Will you be offering details on your website about what’s in the fruit only and veges only boxes?
