    • I’m looking forward to food tasting like food. I do not want my apples waxed and all the same size and colour. I want to taste the difference in apples and I want to taste that sharp, sweet taste that apples taste like straight off the tree. I do not want my oranges stored in a refrigerated container for 6 months. I want to eat oranges that have been sun ripened and drip down my chin when I eat them, and taste sweeter than honey. I want my tomatoes to taste like a tomato and not some weird tasteless red water. I do not want enormous, generic looking onions. I need onions that burn my eyes and that smell like onions. I want garlic that stinks. I want my food to be food and not this weird, manipulated, tasteless stuff that is sold in the supermarkets. (Read the complete letter here)

    • Hi there, just wanted to say that it was such a delight to collect my first box last week – the process was so simple and well organised, and the contents of the box were beyond my greatest expectations! We were really thrilled at the diversity and quality of fruit and veg in the box, and it’s so nice to not have to go fruit and veg shopping ourselves. Only thing I was surprised about were the bananas – must be from Queensland? I’m sure you had a lot of internal debate about whether to include them! If you’re going to continue to get bananas I’m happy to get them, but I don’t feel that I particularly need bananas and would prefer to support local farmers if there’s a choice. Think that’s it for now, can’t wait for my next box this week! Thanks again for all your hard work getting this wonderful project off the ground,  Sophie

    • It really is wonderful to be able to communicate and participate in the organic process of the start up of such a great community spirited organisation such as FoodConnect Adelaide. I loved seeing on Facebook that there was eggplant (not a fan) then being able to swap mine for some really lovely garlic! Loving the silverbeet! I also wondered at the fruit vs veg mix this week and also am staying with you! Great work and much appreciated! Susan (from facebook)

    • It’s funny how, after nearly 4 weeks of eating predominantly organic produce, my partner and I can feel a real change in our bodies and health. We are buying very little additional conventional veggies (corn and mushrooms mostly) and are really feeling the negative effects of eating junk and takeaway. We’ve been amazed at the incredible flavour of the food connect goodies each week and are now seeing the true health benefits of eating organic. Sorry Doritos, I’m gonna have to pass and go for those blood plums instead. Emily (facebook)

  • I went to the Central Market today for the first time since joining FC to grab a couple of things. It was sad to see so much food that all looked alike, not knowing where it came from or when it was picked. Sellers were shouting at people and as I was hit by prams and shopping trolleys, I remembered why I don’t like to go there often. “Not good enough!”, as Gordon Ramsay would say. Luckily it’s Thursday and I took our dog for a walk over to our City Cousin and came home with a bag of yum and a smile. Then it hit me that FC isn’t just organic & sustainable food, it’s friendly food. Keep up the good work!

  • All the produce has been fantastic!  Were just glad to be part of something that we can see will make a difference to the people involved and the environment at a local level. It actually makes getting our fruit and vegetables each week easy and fun and we love the varied produce .  We have also found it does not cost anymore than the fruit and veg place we used to shop at. For the 2 of us we found the small box to be perfect in size, we have our 1st little one on the way so will be using more organic produce to make our own baby food.  A little experimentation at the moment to get the right box size but next time we’ll definitely get a longer subscription. Cheers, D

  • Hey Toby, It was great to chat to you today and renew my order with Food Connect.  I’m only getting the small box for 2 adults and 2 young children and have found it to be such good value and chock full of yummy food that as I mentioned I’ll be changing to fortnightly deliveries for awhile to see how that goes. The fact that it’s organic and totally fresh the box is amazingly cheap in comparison to if I went to my usual organic grocer and bought everything that’s in the box, plus the fact I can leave this kids in the car when I pick it up is just awesome.  I love the challenge of having to be creative with whatever is in the box and I’ve also utilised the swap box on more than one occasion which is a brilliant idea.  I’m also really pleased with the flexibility you guys offer in regards to changing box sizes and delivery frequency plus a thank you must go out to my city cousin because she’s been great and if it wasn’t for people like her being so helpful and supportive of these types of initiatives then it would be much more difficult for something like Food Connect to be so successful. thank you again for starting up in Adelaide, I love it!!!  Cheers, S. pS:  It’s stopped the impulse buying but not the potato chips unfortunately :-)
