Products and prices

All our produce is grown using ecological farming methods. New regulations restrict the use of the term ‘organic’ to that produce grown only by certified organic growers. Approximately 85% of Food Connect Adelaides produce is certified organic or biodynamic. The remaining 25% is grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers and under the old regulations could have been called organic. We do not supply ‘minimum spray’ produce as there is currently no body regulating ‘minimum spray’ nor are there minimum spray guidelines as to what actually is ‘minimum’.

Because we buy direct and seasonally, the contents will sometimes vary from week to week and will vary by season. However we’ll make sure the staples are in there each week. To see a list of produce of what’s in this weeks box, click here. For pictures of box contents, go to the box gallery here.
Subscriptions

To create a more stable market for our farmers, the minimum Food Connect Adelaide subscription is for four boxes. Longer subscriptions protect you from any price rises and also give you bonus boxes. You can elect to stagger your minimum of four boxes fortnightly or in whatever combination you choose in preference to four consecutive weeks. You can mix and match your boxes too, all you need is a minimum order of any combination for 4 weeks. This gives you the flexibility to tailor your produce to your weekly needs. See FAQS for more detail.

* Help us get started with a Founder’s Subscription of 52 weeks and you’ll receive three free boxes.

Is there any way I would be able to omit an item that I would not use or do not like from the box that would be delivered to me?
I would really like to support this enterprising and sensible operation but I would not be prepared to get items I would not be using, e.g. the head of lettuce which I am assuming would be iceberg.
Also, by what date would I need to place an order for the next delivery, please?
Regards,
Lydia

Hi Lydia. Unfortunately at this stage, no. We are working towards an individualised system but as Im sure you can appreciate for a small social enterprise such an individualised system is very expensive and prohibitive for now. Some Food Connect City Cousins in other states have a swap table…

Jason Quin March 17, 2010 at 2:43 pm

Hello

I’m very interested in sourcing a fruit box for the office, weekly – any likelihood you may move towards such a product? I think you’ll find it a lucrative market, to subsidise your good work and amplify your social impact :)

Jason, we are working on fruit and veg only boxes now. hopefully some pricing up soon.

Amy March 18, 2010 at 3:19 pm

How long do you think it will be until eggs are available as an extra? I would love to get free range REAL eggs each week :) Also, very much looking forward to when you have those veg only boxes organised.

FoodConnect Adelaide March 18, 2010 at 4:49 pm

Hi Amy. i wish we could tell you! Right now we are just managing our pilot phase but we will let everyone know via th ewebsite and facebook when these come on board. Looking into pricing up the fruit and veg boxes this week.

Ailsa March 27, 2010 at 9:32 am

Hi guys,
I spend easily $60 a week on F&Veg, and I see your large box has a large variety…BUT , I can’t find how much of each product. I have a family of 6, so obviously I use lots of everything. 12 apples for example will only last me 2 days. Cheers

FoodConnect Adelaide March 29, 2010 at 7:46 am

Ailsa, possibly 2 large boxes or a large and medium. Boxes can be up or downgraded at any time and your account accredited or debited accordingly. Hope this helps. Amounts of produce in each box depends of harvets each week and is not fixed but a ball park would be 10-12 kgs of food per large box.

Delta April 7, 2010 at 10:34 pm

What a total awesome idea!
Congratulations to you all!
I read Ailsas’ question above regarding box size and quantity.
It is just myself and my 4 and a half year old, so my guess would be that I should be safe to order a small box. Also I would be hoping to stretch a box out over a fortnight. Would I be better off getting the medium size?
Thanks and best of luck with this. I’m so excited.

Hi Delta. It really depends on how much you eat and if you eat regularly at home. Possibly recommend a medium box if you want it fortnightly. Cheers!

Kate April 9, 2010 at 4:34 pm

Is there any way to find out what day each city cousin does pick ups? I don’t have a car, and there’s not a cousin super close to me – one within bussing and then walking distance, but that means it will take a bit more planning for me.

Thanks!

FoodConnect Adelaide April 10, 2010 at 8:49 am

Hi kate, I will update the City cousin information to reflect days available. Thanks for pointing uut the shortall in nfo! Adelaide Hills is a wed pickup – approx 3-6.30pm and other metro sites are Thursdays.

Kate April 12, 2010 at 12:09 pm

Thanks! I am possibly going to sing up at the same time as a friend, and she can pick up my boxes. Will that make a problem at your end?

FoodConnect Adelaide April 12, 2010 at 12:12 pm

Kate, thats no problem at all nd lots of people share pick ups like this. all they would need to do is sign your box off when its picked up.

Ellin April 17, 2010 at 4:59 pm

When we sign up and elect to make payment, are payments deducted in one lump sum: ie: $120 for 4 small boxes?, or do we get direct debited each week? (or which ever time frame we elect). Sorry if I missed this elsewhere on the website.

FoodConnect Adelaide April 17, 2010 at 5:03 pm

Hi Ellin. Thanks for your inquiry. Its a lump sum of $120 either by direct deposit or credit card. Welcome to FCA!

Lee April 19, 2010 at 8:51 pm

I’m so pleased that this is being embraced by so many!
I just had the thought that uploading pictures to show how much produce is in each sized box (either laid out or boxed up) would be really useful in helping people decide how much to order.

Also, I’d be more interested in a veg-only box rather than fruit-veg combo (in case you’re keeping score) :)

lynn May 28, 2010 at 8:16 am

I want to subscribe to a weekly delivery for a year but what happens when I am away on holiday and won’t be available for a delivery for a few weeks at a time. Can I put my delivery on hold and how much notice would you need?
Regards Lynn

FoodConnect Adelaide May 28, 2010 at 9:12 am

Hi Lynn, no problem- you can put your deliveries on hold whenever you like, we just need to know by the Friday the week before you want your subscription to stop so we do not order more than we need. See the FAQ section under the sign up tab for any more answers to your questions.

Kath Inverarity June 6, 2010 at 12:17 pm

Hi,

Renewal of subscription time for us! Is there a different way of doing this than 13 weeks ago?
Can’t see a link on the Home page to subscription renewal….& change to a medium instead of a small.

Kath

FoodConnect Adelaide June 6, 2010 at 12:32 pm

Hi Kath, you can pay by direct deposit, to account details on the Contact us tab, including your name and send Toby an email alerting him to the fact that you have paid and want to upgrade. If you want to pay by credit card, call Toby at the Food Connect warehouse.

Rebecca Harper-Wells July 14, 2010 at 4:52 pm

What a BRILLIANT BRILLIANT BRILLIANT idea – love your work! I will be spreading the Food Connect name around for sure! Looking forward to those extra options.

Siobhan August 12, 2010 at 12:06 am

Hi,
Approx how many kilos of produce are in each sized box?

Thanks :)

FoodConnect Adelaide August 16, 2010 at 9:37 pm

tricky to say as it varies week by week, depending on type of produce and costs. As produce gets scarcer in the winter months, costs rise and amounts decrease. 6-7, 8-9, 10-11kg measuring on some weird, ‘ish’ average mid winter, more in the less lean times
