About Us

Food Connect Adelaide is a socially and environmentally progressive organisation dedicated to connecting consumers with local farmers through the mechanism of a fairer and fresher approach to food production and delivery. We are actively working on practical solutions to overcome serious problems in our current mainstream food distribution networks.

We are passionate about:

A fair go for farmers
Eating locally grown and produced food
Eating seasonally
Ecologically sustainable food production
Building community

We  deliver fresh, sustainable, local food to your local area.

Food Connect Adelaide aims to create healthier communities through the understanding that food connects people to their environment and to each other. We rely on ‘city cousins’ to provided a community- based point of pick up for our farm fresh produce. We operate as a social enterprise under the umbrella not-for-profit Food Connect Foundation SA, we are a community supported agriculture (CSA) initiative; a model of food production and distribution based on social networks which is increasingly growing in popularity in Europe and the USA.

We aim to source produce from within a 5 hr radius of Adelaide where possible. Some exceptions may be made for tropical fruit at certain times of the year. Please see our Sourcing Policy for more information.  Farmers receive a fair price for their produce, which helps them to maintain or transition to, sustainable and eco-efficient methods. Farmers get to know the people they are producing for and you have the opportunity to get to know the people who grow the food for your family.

We are passionate about providing you with fresh (from farm to table in a matter of days) seasonal, nutritious and affordable food and where possible sourcing from organic suppliers. Food Connect Adelaide commenced full delivery in March 2010 and is now providing produce boxes to several hundred enthusiastic ‘loca vores’ each week!

Food Connect History

The original Food Connect was founded by Robert Pekin in Brisbane. He envisaged a large community shared agriculture enterprise that could develop a local and regional food system for South-East Queensland.
There was no seeding capital put forward to start and grow such a venture, and so Robert took to the road enlisting farmers and potential subscribers. Food Connect started in 2004 with its now widely recognised ‘City Cousin’ system that provide the drop off points for the food grown by our farmers.

The energy and sheer persistence provided by Robert and many other people committed to implementing a food system better for both the farmers and the environment has allowed Food Connect to grow to the point now where the Brisbane Food Connect are distributing almost a thousand boxes a week. Food Connect systems like this one here in Adelaide, are growing around the country.

Hello

What a great initiative – fantastic to see this getting started.

Just wanted to let you know about an organisation I am involved with called JusticeNet SA. If a non-profit like FCA needs help with any legal matters eg incorporation, tax advice, employment advice, contracts etc – we may be able to find you solicitors to help for free from amongst our members.

Our website is still basic but has contact details – see http://www.justicenet.org.au.

Good luck with the first deliveries!
