So much to do! Launch dates loom. The team at Food Connect Adelaide are working hard to ensure that Food Connect Adelaide hits its launch date 2010. Keeping everyone busy right now are preparations for funding applications for Green business grants, attending farmers meetings, organising a Food Connect Adelaide volunteers meeting for early December where tasks can be shared and some fun can be had. We are planning the final machinations of Food Connect Adelaide before launch and have been doing lots of pavement pounding to ensure that the Food Connect Adelaide word spreads and to generate as wide spread support as we can for this community building venture. We love your support and input, it really helps keep motivation up and enthusiasm going.

Hi,
I’ve just accidentally found the Food Connect Adelaide site and thought I would tell you about my experiences with Food Connect in Brisbane.
My husband and I are probably Food Connect Brisbane’s longest standing suppliers. We took avocadoes to Brisbane on the day Food Connect opened there and have delivered produce every Tuesday morning ever since. Not all of what we take up to Brisbane is grown by us. We co-ordinate the Tamborine Mountain area so that we can obtain supplies from quite a large number of different growers. Most of them are small – sometimes just backyard growers. We’ve been able to do this because for the past 10 years we’ve run a small co-operative, not-for-profit market every Sunday morning which sells locally produced fruit and vegetables, honey and flowers. That’s how we know all the local growers and what they’ve got for Food Connect. For the past three years we’ve also sold some of the food produced by other Food Connect farmers to add to the variety of food that is produced on Tamborine Mountain. If you are interested in knowing more about our market you can go to Greenshed.com.au.
The connection with Food Connect has been a really positive experience. I think Food Connect is a great business and we were fortunate to be present earlier this year when they won the Queensland Premier’s Award for being an outstanding sustainable business.
For my husband and I farming started out as a retirement activity …. and then it got serious! To be able to supply both Food Connect and our local market, I’ve had to develop a really intensive system for growing a huge amount of produce in a relatively small area of land. For the past 5 years we’ve been running training programmes for people who want to grow nutrient dense food without having to use poisons and chemical fertilizers for people who live nearby. That’s been really successful so I’ve developed a comprehensive 12-month training programme which people can download from the Internet if they live further away. If you want to see what we do go to healthygarden food.com and you can see a video of our property and some of the training programmes we’ve run.
Good Luck Food Connect Adelaide
